HANDLE THE BEAT
First of all, there are two sides for this drum, a larger side and a smaller one to give beats with varying pithces. The techniques to handle this instrument are that the instrument must be held between your knees with the larger side of the drum in your right hand side(in case you are are a right handed) and the smaller one on the other side. This instrument has eight notes and they use the term 'Martillo' to mention them. Its a spanish word and it stands for the word 'Hammer'. It is played by fingers and palms. People may often use drum sticks to play this.
DO'S AND DON'TS WHILE BUYING A DRUM
If you are curious to learn this amazing instrument, then absolutely you will be buying a bongo drum. Now,here are few tips for buying a good Drum. As per our universal law, money means everything. So don't worry about the cost of the drum. The more you invest the more you can enjoy the beat..I prefer 'Skin on Skin' and 'Gon Bops California Model' to those folks who are interested in buying. Please don't buy drums that are curved inwards in the middle part of the drum, the sad part of these types of drums are that they can be tuned only by holding them over fire, its sounds quite difficult, right?
And the second thing, don't buy drums which have a plastic centre block and cheap rims. There are some drums which will be tuned only after a long withstand beating. And also don't buy bongo drums in which the tuning bolts are sticking up, it will hurt your hands. When you are in a shop to buy a drum you should check whether the shells are perfectly welded with the tuning ring. If you are ready to invest a large amount to buy this, you may opt for a hand-crafted set by El Pierna. If you have little money or on a tighter budget, I recommend you to go with the 'Rumba Series'. Those series's are available in Asia and they are very reasonably priced. I hope this article will help. Enjoy your beat .Have a nice day folks.
